The one where I discuss violence.
How cool would it be to be unstoppable? To be able to fight and kill anyone you wanted? That power would be intoxicating, I'm sure. Everyone wants it. Because otherwise there wouldn't be so many movies about one man armies. About one person (usually guy) just being the best and kicking everyone's ass, usually for the better good. I have to admit, I like watching it too. It gets my adrenaline rushing, watching someone hurt someone else. It's weird, but it does. Usually it's a good guy killing a bad guy, so I can feel okay about it. But it makes me think. How different are we from the Ancient Romans? They watched Gladiators kill each other for fun. We watch boxing, in which men sometimes killl each other. Sure, they volunteered for it, unlike Gladiators. but if no one watched, no one would box. I'm not saying that adrenaline is necessarily bad, it's just we have to watch our excitment over violence. I have talked to a lot of guys who say that it's like a drug. You have to "increase the dose" for it to have any effect. YOu have to watch more violent and more violent movies.
There's nothing wrong with watching a violent movie. As long at the violence is shown for the right reasons. Being desensitized to violence for no good reason isn't a good thing. And it's something we are quite okay with in our country. But it just makes me think, you know?
How far are we from watching Gladiators kill each other for entertainment?
